Asa Lloyd Putnam

Asa Lloyd Putnam, son of Rufus and Cynthia Putnam, was born at Epsorth, Dubuque county, Iowa, on April 6th, 1854 and passed away at his home in Hartford, Iowa, on Sept. 6th 1940, at the age of eighty-six years and five months. He came with his parents to Marion Co., in 1862 and from there to Warren Co. in 1867. For more than seventy years he has been a resident of this community and resided on the same farm for the last forty-eight years. He was of a family of seventeen children, five full brothers and two sisters and five half brothers and four sisters.

On December 25th, 1872, he was united in marriage with Sarah Ellen Pyle of Hartford and to this union was born one child, C.E. Putnam. Many years ago two small nieces of Mrs. Putnam, Roxie and Delta Robinson were taken into their home and cared for as their own until the death of Roxie in 1898 and the marriage of Delta in 1905. Mrs. Putnam preceded her husband in death by almost eleven months. Left to mourn his passing are his son, C.E. Putnam, his grandson, Donald Putnam and tow grand-daughters, Dorothy Ryner of Indianola and Edna Thorp of Panora, and six great grand-children. The brothers and sisters surviving are Bert of Marshalltown, Jim of Griswold, Charles of Oakland, Frank of Crete, Nebraska, Adrian of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Annie Rhodes of Greenfield and Myrtle Bruner of Keene, Texas. He was a member of the Christian church and the Masonic Lodge of Hartford. The many years of a well spent life have made for him many warm friends by whom he will be greatly missed.
