Mrs. A. L. Putnam
Sarah Ellen Putnam daughter of George and Elizabeth Pyle, was born in Hancock county, Ind., Dec. 25, 1852 and departed this life Oct 12, 1939, at her home in Hartford at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 17 days.
She came with her parents to Warren county, Iowa, in 1853 and had lived her entire life in Hartford and vicinity. She was converted and became a member of the Christian church in 1870.
On Dec. 25, 1872, she was married to A.E. Putnam. To this union was born one child C.E. Putnam, of Hartford. She is survived by two sisters Mrs. Lena Rawson of Tucson, Aria., and Mrs Ida Sexton of Bozenam, Mont.
Many years ago one of Mrs. Putnam's sisters passed away leaving two little girls, Roxie and Delta Robertson, who were taken in and became a part of the Putnam family circle until the death of Roxie in 1898 and the marriage of Delta to Albert Wilson in 1905.
Left to mourn her passing in her immediate family are her husband, her son; her grandson, Donald Putnam; her grandaughter; Mrs. Dorothy Rynor, all of Hartford; a granddaughter, Mrs. Edna Thorp, of Panora, Ia.; and six great-grandchildren. Her 83 years in one community have made for her many warm friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by her nephew, the Rev. Loren Puitnam, of the Christian church in Ottumwa, assisted by the Rev. W. P. Tuttle of the Hartford church. Interment was in the Hartford cemetery.
Card of Thanks: We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our neighbors and friends for their helpfulness, sympathy and beautiful flowers given during the illness, and at the time of the death of our loved one. A.L. Putnam and family.
