VIOLET WILCOX, Indianola

Violet Hawk Wilcox, 91, died Sept. 12, 2008, at Windsor Manor in Indianola.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Sept. 17) at the Linn Grove United Methodist Church in rural Prole. Burial was at Linn Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Linn Grove United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent to www.overtonfunerals.com .

Violet Wilcox was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Cherry County, Neb., to Charles and Minnie Bailey. She married Elmer Hawk in 1934 and to this marriage six children were born. She later was united in marriage to Melvin Wilcox in 1958. They lived on a ranch in Stapleton, Neb., until his death in 1968. Violet resided in North Platte, Neb., until 1990, when she moved to Martensdale, Iowa. In 2005, she moved to Windsor Manor in Indianola. Violet was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Linn Grove United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, James; a great-grandson; and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children — Melvina Brown of Prole, Frances Scherff of Aurora, Neb., Deanna Cheek of Republic, Mo., Ellen Swanson of Kearney, Neb., and Frank Hawk of Norwalk; and 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
