From February 14th to April 18th, 1918, the Advocate-Tribune newspapers, Indianola, Iowa, included caricatures on the front page entitled “Indianola People You Know” with little bodies, big heads, and tiny images around each person recounting their lives.

John Lawrence Powers (Apr 7, 1870 – Nov 20, 1940) – caricature on Feb 14, 1918 issue
The pioneer clothing merchant of Indianola – he puts in ten weeks on the road each year representing a New York manufacturing co. for which he has sold more than $1,000.000.00 worth of clothes in the past 16 years. When it comes to clothes, he is thoroughly posted. He was born in Decatur County, IA…. Started when only a boy at $10.00 a month, established his present business, One-Price-Cash Clothier in 1899… He had the prize garden in town last year [1917]… He plays golf, but is better at selling clothes.
