MRS. IDA EUNICE THOMAS
Mrs. Ida E. Thomas, daughter of James and Nettie Clement, was born in Carlisle Oct. 8, 1883, and has lived in this community her entire life. Her parents and grandparents were also long-time residents of Carlisle. Her father worked for the railroad a number of years, and was then employed by the Nicholson Milling company. He also farmed for a few years and had a hardware business at the time of his death in 1914.
Mrs. Thomas attended the high school at Carlisle. Jan. 3, 1904, in the Methodist church at Carlisle, she was united in marriage to Luther LeRoy Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H. Thomas, who were also long-time residents of the Carlisle community. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Thomas began their married life on their small farm south of Carlisle, but three years later, when Mr. Thomas became a rural mail carrier, he, his wife, and small son moved to Carlisle. About 1912 Mr. Thomas began to work for Edd H. Young in the business of managing funerals, and in 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Thomas took over this business in which they worked for 25 years.
For more than 40 years Mrs. Thomas has been news correspondent for The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune. She also writes for her home-town paper, The Carlisle Citizen. She has been a member of the Methodist Church since she was nine years old and has been a Sunday school teacher more than 40 years. At the present time she is teaching the women's Bible class. She has served as president of the Ladies aid, the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and is a member of the church choir. In 1930 she was worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. One son, Ralph E., was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, He was born Dec. 10, 1904. Luther LeRoy Thomas passed away Oct. 26, 1950.
