WALTER BARTON TOWNSEND
Walter B. Townsend, teacher and school administrator, was born five miles northeast of Indianola May 15, 1889, the son of C. L. B. and Rebecca Elizabeth (Miller) Townsend. His parents were born, reared and married in Pennsylvania. Mr. Townsend's sister, Flora D. Townsend, was born in Mahaska county Sept. 22, 1870. Mr. Townsend graduated from the Indianola high school in 1910 and received the degree of bachelor of arts from Simpson college in 1924.
Mr. Townsend taught in Simpson academy and was principal of the Indianola junior high school from 1931 to 1944. He was superintendent of the Spring Hill schools two different times. He is a member of the First Methodist Church of Indianola. He states that he is an independent in politics. Address: 404 South Jefferson, Indianola.
