JAMES OLIVER RITCHIE
J. O. Ritchie, retired farmer of Indianola, was born at Allerton March 16, 1879, the son of James Harvey and Esther Ann Ritchie. Nov. 18, 1908, at Allerton he married Elizabeth G. Anderson, daughter of William Harvey and Lizzie Anderson. Mrs. Ritchie was born at Edgerton, Kan., Sept. 10, 1884. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Ritchie have two children: Esther Louise, born in 1914, and James William, born in 1917.
Mr. Ritchie has two farms - one is located north of Lacona and the other is west and south of Lacona. He is a member of the Farm Bureau. Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie worship in the faith of the First Presbyterian church. Their political ties are with the Republican party.
While living at Allerton Mr. Ritchie was engaged in farming and became farm manager for the Des Moines Joint Stock Land bank. In 1932 the Ritchies moved to Indianola, Mr. Ritchie continuing as farm manager for the land bank. Shortly thereafter he changed to farm manager and salesman for the Prudential Life Insurance company, which connection continued until 1944, since which time he has devoted himself to the management of his own farms.
