HERBERT E. PERKINS
Herbert E. Perkins, who was interested in local family histories and genealogy, was born at Cordova, Illinois, Feb. 27, 1869, and died at his home in Indianola Dec. 4, 1949. He was the son of J. L. and Lucinda (Williams) Perkins. In the spring of 1882 his parents moved from Illinoisto Ringgold County, Iowa, where they engaged in farming. In 1895 Herbert E. Perkins began to operate a printing business at Kellerton, which he sold a few years later.
Dec. 28, 1898, he married Maud M. Lee of Davis City. In 1909 they left Kellerton, and after living in Des Moines and Perry, they came to Indianola in the spring of 1917, and spent the remainder of their lives there. Mrs. Perkins died Feb. 28, 1928.
Mr. Perkins derived pleasure and satisfaction in tracing family lines in Warren County, and much of his time was spent in doing this kind of work. He received many inquiries from people in regard to dates of births, marriages and deaths of ancestors who had lived in Warren County. He was one of the best authorities in the county on local history and left a valuable file of newspapers. In his will he left some money to the Warren County Historical society.
