HAROLD GEORGE PATTERSON
Born at Carlisle April 28, 1901, Harold G. Patterson is the son of George and Mary (Hill) Patterson. His father, George Patterson, came to Warren County in 1867 when he was only 17 days old, and spent the rest of his life in the county. At 16 years of age he began threshing with a horse-driven machine, but later owned and operated one of the first first steam-driven threshers in the county. He engaged in the threshing business 35 years, and then operated a sawmill on his farm for a number of years.
Mr. Patterson, who passed away in 1943, was a public-spirited citizen. He served six years as a member of the Warren County board of supervisors and was for many years a member of the board of education of the Hartford Consolidated Schools. He also was a member of the county board of education. He married Mary Hill in 1892. They reared three children: Gretchen, Harold G. and Clint L.
Harold G. Patterson attended the Carlisle High School and Iowa State College at Ames. He married Louisa Margaret Ellis April 23, 1922. Mrs. Patterson, daughter of James and Margaret (Pilmer) Ellis, was born at Norwalk Aug. 7, 1900. The Pattersons have three children: Harold G. Jr., born Feb. 3, 1925; Richard J., born Oct. 2, 1929; Cherry R., born Dec. 27, 1930, who married Duane Mott.
Harold G. Patterson is a past president of Hartford Lodge A. F. & A. M. He has been active in Boy Scout work and, has worked with boys' basketball teams in Carlisle. He is an overseer and trustee of Middle River Friends church, and Mrs. Patterson is at present presiding clerk of this church. Prior to her marriage Mrs. Patterson was a rural schoolteacher, and from 1928 to 1929 she held important offices in the Warren County Federation of Women's clubs. Mr. Patterson, who is a farmer, contractor and builder, lives at Carlisle.
