HARRY LEROY ORR
Harry L. Orr, member of the John J. Orr & Son furniture store at Indianola, was born at Thayer in Union County April 13, 1883. He is the son of John James and Deborah (Huntzinger) Orr. April 18, 1906, Mr. Orr married Mary Rachel Singer, daughter of Theodore M. and Amanda Singer. Mrs. Orr was born at Adena, Ohio, Dec. 16, 1883.
Mr. and Mrs. Orr have five children: Myron Singer Orr, born March 31, 1907; Margaret Helen (Ferguson), born Feb. 5, 1910; Harriet Eloise (Sacre), born Feb. 20, 1912; John Theodore, born June 20, 1914; Harry Leland, born June 29, 1918.
From 1908 to 1946 Mr. Orr was a dealer in furniture and funeral director. Since 1946 he and the other members of his firm have devoted themselves entirely to their business in furniture. Mr. and Mrs. Orr worship in the faith of the Methodist Church. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Masons and the Odd Fellows, while Mrs. Orr belongs to the Eastern Star and the Rebekahs. Their political affiliation is with the Republican Party. Address: 511 West Salem, Indianola.
The subject of this sketch and his father, the late J. J. Orr, bought a furniture and undertaking business in Indianola 45 years ago. The furniture business is now carried on by Mr. Orr and his son Myron, It is believed that Harry Orr has the record of the longest continuous service in business of any businessman in Indianola at this time. Mr. Orr died May 1, 1953.
