EDWIN LEROY NICKLE
Edwin L. Nickle, minister and farmer, was born in Marshall County Dec. 18, 1869, son of George S. and Sarah Jane (Hauser) Nickle. He attended both high school and college. On Nov. 5, 1895, he married Jennie Ellen Hutchison, daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Adams) Hutchison. Mrs. Nickle was born in Adams county Aug. 17, 1871. Children born to Mr. and Mrs. Nickle are: Cecil Hutchison, Oct. 15, 1896; Kenneth Leroy, May 4, 1900 (died in 1907); Lois Sarah, April 15, 1903; Cleo Samuel, April 27, 1906.
Because of ill health Edwin L. Nickle in 1902 turned from the ministry to farming in Allen Township, Warren County. Mr. Nickle never gave up completely the ministry, but served various churches on Sundays. Later in life he left the farm, and again devoted all histime to the ministry. Mrs. Nickle is also an ordained minister and is active in the women's work of the church. Mr. Nickle has for years participated in the International Sunday school work in Warren County, serving as its president for six years.
Mr. Nickle has been very active in Farm Bureau work. During World War I he helped organize the Farm Bureau of Warren County and served as its president for six years. He also was sent as a delegate to Marshalltown to help in the organization of the State Farm Bureau federation. Mr. Nickle was active in the organization of the Dairy Marketing association of Des Moines, and served for several years as director and president of the organization. While Mr. Nickle was president of the Warren County Farm Bureau, he was asked to be a candidate for representative to the state legislature of Iowa and did considerable work in farm legislation.
In politics Mr. Nickle is a Republican, and his religious affiliation is with the Disciples of Christ church. The Nickles live on their farm a short distance south of Carlisle.
