ARTHUR F. LUNGREN
Arthur F. Lungren was born at Gowrie Jan. 12, 1885, son of Charles I. and Emily (Peterson) Lungren. He acquired his college education at Tobin College at Fort Dodge and at Iowa State college at Ames, where he received two degrees —bachelor of science and bachelor of science in agricultural education. Mr. Lungren was the first person ever to receive the degree of bachelor of science in agricultural education.
Aug. 28, 1918, he married Ada Louise Schimelfenig, daughter of Adam F. and Carrie (Sittenheimer) Schimelfenig. Mrs. Lungren, who was born in Indianola, graduated from Simpson college in 1907, and for a number of years taught in the high schools at Odebolt, Avoca, Britt, Aurelia and Ft. Dodge. She was one of the founders of the chapter of Alpha Chi Omega on the Simpson College campus.
Following his graduation from college, Mr. Lungren entered the field of life insurance, advancing from the position as agent to that of home office executive at Indianapolis, Ind. In 1935 he left the life insurance field and devoted himself to his farms.
Mr. Lungren is active in civic affairs, and has served as president of the Indianola Council of Civic Agencies and as chairman of the Warren County chapter of the American National Red Cross. He belongs to the Masonic order, including the Des Moines Consistory and Shrine. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta, social fraternity, and Delta Sigma Rho and Gamma Sigma Rho, honorary fraternities. He is also a member of the Lions club, the Izaak Walton league, the Farm Bureau and the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders association of the United States. Mr. and Mrs. Lungren are members of the Presbyterian church at Indianola. They live at 611 West Ashland, Indianola.
