ERNEST F. KEENEY
Ernest Keeney was born May 19, 1878, on the Benjamin Keeney farm near Carlisle. Ben Keeney and his wife, Martha Randleman Keeney, had eight children: Alfred B., Carrie, Ernest, George, Ira J., Levi, Nina and Pearl. Ernest at- tended school at Scotch Ridge and later became a farmer. He has farmed near Carlisle most of his life and for the past 30 years has lived on the "Chiles" farm just west of Carlisle.
In 1903 he was united in marriage with Laura Lyon of Swan. They have three children: Opal, who married James Lowther, teaches in Des Moines and has four children, James, Judith, Laura and John; Austin, a farmer, married Elsie Huckelberry, and they have two boys, Gary Ernest and Dennis; Martha, the third child, is Mrs. Kermit Johnson. Both Er- nest keeney and his wife are members of the Carlisle Christian church and have always been interested in the welfare of their community. The Keeney family recently celebrated the centennial of its arrival in Iowa. Ben Keeney, Ernest's father, was born near Carlisle in 1848, one of the first white children to be born in Warren County.
