ARDEN W KEENEY
Arden W. Keeney, son of William P. and Nancy E. Keeney, was born on a fruit farm in Allen Township, Polk County, June 30, 1879. Arden, as everyone still calls him, learned to work on his father's fruit farm at an early age, doing such things as making berry boxes, picking berries and carrying water. He lived on this farm with his parents until 1900, when he married Lulu B. Randleman, daughter of J. H. and Sarah E. Randleman, who also lived in Allen Township, Polk County. The parents and grandparents of the Arden Keeneys were pioneer settlers of the Carlisle community, locating there during the middle forties. From their parents and grandparents, the young Keeneys learned that there was greater happiness and satisfaction "in life by living with and for your community." The Keeneys had three daughters: Ermile E., who married Roy W. Schooley; Beatrice, who married Truman C. Rothfus; Constance L., who married John A. Jameson.
Arden and Lulu farmed until 1914 when they moved to Carlisle, where he entered an automobile and implement business, and in spare moments served as school director, councilman and mayor. In 1921 he sold his business to become postmaster of Carlisle. He held this office 12 years, well liked by all. In 1934 he moved to Indianola to become deputy county treasurer of Warren County. After he had held the office about eight years, the Keeneys returned to their home in Carlisle. A. W. Keeney belongs to the Methodist Church and in his political convictions he is a Republican. His hobby is collecting old walnut furniture. Arden states that his education has not yet been completed and if the writer wants this information will have to "come back much later."
