J. C. Johnson, farmer and purebred cattle raiser of Virginia township, was born Feb. 6, 1879. Born of pioneer parents, J. C. Johnson came to Warren County in 1927. Mr. Johnson went to Lynnville high school and attended Penn college.
Oct. 21, 1903, Mr. Johnson married Winema Penberton, daughter of a mini-ster and missionary to the Indians. Mrs. Johnson was educated at Iowa Friends academy and at Penn college. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are parents of three sons, Jervis Byron, Henry Mark and Richard.
Mr. Johnson was a charter member of the Farm Bureau and spent 12 years organizing Farm Bureau units, and wrote Farm Bureau insurance for 10 years. At the present time he is a representative from Warren County to the State Farm Bureau house of delegates.
The Johnson home was one of the first to receive the benefits of R.E.A [Rural Electrical Association, in other words, one of the first to get electricity]. in Virginia Township.
Although Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are by birthright members of the Friends Church, they are very active in the Methodist church. J. C. Johnson has served the church as an official and is now teaching a Sunday school class.—(A.E.S.) [written by Alden Edward Smalley]
