HARRY HERMAN HIMSTREET
H, H. Himstreet, farmer, stockman and grocery store operator who now lives on his farm at Medora, was born in Squaw Township, Warren County, June 11, 1875. He is the son of L. D. and Hannah Susan (Young) Himstreet.
Aug. 10, 1898, H. H. Himstreet married Mable Olive Leonard, daughter of Edwin and Kathrine (Trumbo) Leonard. Mrs. Himstreet was born in Adair county Aug. 7, 1877. Mr. and Mrs. Himstreet have four children: Doris Hildred, born April 16, 1900; Wilma Wylde, born June 27, 1902; Amy Fern, born Feb. 17, 1905; Gordon Leonard, born June 21, 1909.
In 1899 Mr. Himstreet began to farm, and feed cattle and hogs on his father's farm in Squaw Township. In 1904 he began to operate a farm of his own at Medora. Two years later he also began to operate a general store at Medora. In 1919 he sold his store and moved to an acreage in Indianola. In 1922 he moved to Martensdale, where he operated a grocery store and Mrs. Himstreet was postmistress for 21 years. At the same time Mr. Himstreet farmed and fed stock on his farm west of Martensdale. For several years he was treasurer of the town of Martensdale. In 1946 Mr. and Mrs. Himstreet retired to their farm at Medora, where they live during the summer, spending the winter in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Himstreets worship in the faith of the Presbyterian Church, and their political affiliation is with the Republican Party.
