ALVA CORWYN HICKS JR.
Alva C. Hicks Jr., owner and operator of Sunset Florists at Indianola, was born in Taylor County March 14, 1918, the son of Alva Corwyn and Vida Kate (Nichols) Hicks. He graduated from Simpson College in 1940 and in 1948 received the degree of bachelor of science from Iowa State college.
June 29, 1941, Alva C. Hicks married Laura Louvada Weller, daughter of Charles D. and Fannie Belle (Greeley) Weller. Mrs. Hicks was born at Conway, Iowa, Oct. 4, 1918. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks have one daughter, Linda Kay, born Sept. 9, 1948.
During World War II Mr. Hicks served and was commissioned captain in the coastal artillery and signal corps. His four and one-half years of service included 15 months of duty overseas in the European theater, where he participated in the Battle of Central Europe and the Rhineland. Following the close of the war, he was commissioned captain in the signal corps reserves. Mr. Hicks is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Masonic lodge, Lions club and Izaak Walton league.
Mrs. Hicks belongs to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, and Business and Professional Women's club. The Hicks family belongs to the Methodist church. Their political affiliation is with the Republican Party. Address: 812 West Clinton, Indianola.
