JOHN CLINTON GOODHUE
John Goodhue, farmer and insurance and real estate agent of Carlisle, was born near Melbourne in Marshall County Aug. 7, 1904. He is the son of Elmer Clinton and Lane (Meyer) Goodhue. He graduated from the Carlisle high school and attended the State University of Iowa. On June 8, 1932, John Goodhue married Helen Elizabeth Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Young of Gravity. Mrs. Goodhue was born in Taylor county July 4, 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Goodhue have three sons: Dale, born Feb. 27, 1933; Don, born Feb. 18, 1937; Darrell, born April 3, 1940.
Mr. Goodhue has lived on the Poverty Hollow farm since March 1, 1932. As a result of an accident with a wet drill, he lost his right foot. He then started to operate an insurance and real estate business. He has added to his farm, which now consists of 576 acres.
Mr. Goodhue is a member of the Society of Friends and has for years been either a Sunday school teacher or superintendent. He is a member of the Warren County board of assessment and review, the finance board of the American Friends Service committee, and the Carlisle Businessmen's club and is serving as president of the club. He has been a trustee of Lincoln township for 17 years and for several years he has been a member of the school board. He states that in politics he is an independent with a Republican leaning. Mr. Goodhue is a popular entertainer and has given readings in almost every schoolhouse in the northeastern part of Warren and the southern part of Polk counties.
