ALONZO EMERSON ESSICK
Alonzo E. Essick, farmer of Norwalk, was born at Indianola May 6, 1918, son of Alonzo J. and Leona (Wycoff) Essick. After completing nine years of formal schooling, he went to work on his father's farm. He married Frances Ruth Hatfield July 4, 1942. Mrs. Essick is the daughter of Earl E. and Lila M. (Galloway) Hatfield, and was born March 21, 1924, at Des Moines.
Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Essick: Charlotte Ruth, Sept. 1, 1943; Leonard Emerson, Aug. 8, 1946; Phyllis Marie, April 19, 1948; Evelyn Louise, June 23, 1949; Franklin Earl, Jan. 16, 1951.
Mr. Essick spent 33 months in the army during World War II. Eighteen months of this time he spent in the Pacific area, and received the purple heart for being wounded in action in the Philippine Islands.
Alonzo Emerson Essick is a member of the American Legion Post No. 710, Norwalk, and the Warren County Farm Bureau. His political ties are with the Republican Party. He and his family are affiliated with the Norwalk Methodist Church.
