JOHN EARL ELDRIDGE
J. Earl Eldridge of Indianola is inspector of motor transportation division, Iowa State commerce division. He was born at Washington, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1892, the son of William Suiter and Jennie Viola Baird McCausland Eldridge.
Aug. 20, 1924, at Indianola, he married Do May Laverty, daughter of John W. and Jennie (Pilmer) Laverty. Mrs. Eldridge was born on the Laverty farm near Summerset July 24, 1892. Her paternal grandfather, James Laverty, was a pioneer settler, coming to what is now Warren County in 1847. Although he continued to live on the same farm, the boundaries of the county and township were so changed that he lived in two counties and five townships. John W. Laverty was born on this farm March 7, 1848. The original survey of the city of Indianola was made by John M. Laverty, great-grandfather of Mrs. Eldridge. David Pilmer, grandfather of Mrs. Eldridge, was a native of Scotland and came to Warren County in October, 1855.
During World War I Mr. Eldridge served in the 10th Field Signal battalion, 7th division, on the Alsace-Lorraine front.
Mr. Eldridge is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Mrs. Eldridge belongs to the auxiliaries of these organizations. Mr. Eldridge is a member of the Rotary club which hejoined in 1927.
The Eldridges are members of the First United Presbyterian church of Indianola. Their political ties are with the Republican party. Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge live at 306 North Howard street, Indianola.
