GLADYS BELLE DOWNING
Gladys Downing, teacher in the Liberty Center Consolidated School, was born in Warren County Aug. 23, 1912, the daughter of Earnest and Bessie Shoemaker. She graduated from the high school at Beech and attended Simpson college and Drake university.
The marriage of J. R. Downing and Gladys Belle Shoemaker took place July 12, 1932. Mr. and Mrs. Downing have two sons: Thomas Allen, born Nov. 3, 1935, and David Robert, born Oct. 16, 1940.
J. R. Downing graduated from the Liberty Center High School and attended Iowa State College. He is now engaged in farming, but formerly worked for the Farm Security administration and then the Staley Feed company.
The Downings are members of the Methodist church at Green Plain. Their political affiliation is with the Democratic party. Mrs. Downing is a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
