BLAINE CORE
Blaine Core, farmer of west Lincoln Township, was born at Pleasantville, Iowa, on Oct. 19, 1888, the son of Reuben and Catherine Core. On Feb. 28, 1912, he married Mary Leona Shawver, daughter of William Carson and Flora Jane Shawver. Mrs. Core was born at Pleasantville, Iowa, on Aug. 25, 1891. Mr. and Mrs. Core have eight children: Mary Elizabeth, born Dec. 28, 1912, who married Samuel W. Kelso Feb. 24, 1933, and lives on a farm near Russell, Iowa; Jessie Maxine, born July 28, 1914, who married Stanley M. Heaberlin Nov. 23, 1932, and lives on a farm north of Pleasantville; Willis Bernard, born May 3, 1917, attended Simpson college, entered the air corps in December, 1942, became a pilot on a B-24, and gave his life while on a mission over Germany on June 21, 1944; Reuben Leslie, born Feb. 6, 1919, who married Phyllis Marie Stone on Feb. 23, 1946, and lives on a farm northeast of Indianola; Dorothy Berneil, born Dec. 17, 1920, who married Hugh Templeton Feb. 13, 1943, and lives on a farm north of Knoxville; Donald Blaine, born March 20, 1923, who married Phyllis Marie Reed July 18, 1949, and lives on a farm north of Pleasantville; Lyle Shawver, born July 25, 1925, who married Edna Morris on Nov. 28, 1948, and lives on a farm west of Indianola; Maurice Eldon, born Oct. 7, 1928, who was active in 4-H work and was chosen as International Farm Youth exchange to Austria. He is at the present time a senior at Iowa State college. During World War II Reuben Leslie Core served in the United States navy.
Blaine Core has been affiliated with the Masonic lodge since 1912. He has been a member of the Farm Bureau since 1916, and served as a member of the board of directors of that organization for three years. From 1940 to 1949 he was chairman of the Warren County 4-H club organization. From 1944 to 1948 he was a member of the county committee of P.M.A. His religious affiliation is with the Methodist church.
In 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Core moved from Marion county to Warren County and for five years lived on the E. C. Harlan farm of 640 acres. They then bought the Lee Richardson farm of 193 acres southwest of Indianola, and later purchased an additional 59 acres from the Buxton estate which adjoins their farm.
