DELMAR BOYD COON
Delmar Boyd Coon, farmer of Palmyra, Iowa, was born June 6, 1907, the son of Guy and Bess (Canaday) Coon. He attended Switzer rural school and graduated from Hartford High School. He married Lois Helen Smith, daughter of Homer I. and Jessie (Pendry) Smith, March 29, 1938, the bride's birthday. She was born in 1907 at Hartford. Two sons were born to them: George Robert, April 2, 1939, and Stuart Lynn, Sept. 30, 1944.
Until the horse was almost replaced on the farm by the tractor, Mr. Coon was highly successful in breeding purebred English Shire horses. Animals of his breeding won numerous prizes at the Iowa State and other fairs. He is active in the Warren County Farm Bureau and served two terms as its treasurer. The Coon home is a mile east of Palmyra.
