WILLIAM BUXTON III
William Buxton III, president of the Peoples Trust and Savings bank of Indianola, was born at Long Beach, California, March 17, 1906. He is the son of William and Anna (McLaughlin) Buxton. His father, William Buxton Jr., organized the Peoples Trust and Savings bank which opened for business on Feb. 25, 1919. His grandfather, William Buxton Sr., a native of Derbyshire, England, came to Warren County in 1852.
William Buxton III graduated from the Indianola high school in 1924 and from Simpson college in 1928. Following his graduation from Simpson, he took a course in business administration at Harvard university. In June, 1930, Mr, Buxton married Jane Elizabeth Carpenter, daughter of Lockwood Dickerson and Laura R. Carpenter. Mrs. Buxton was born at Indianola April 21, 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Buxton have three sons: William Robert, born Oct. 5, 1931; Richard William, born March 2, 1936; William Carpenter, born April 23, 1944.
During World War II Mr. Buxton served in the navy as instructor in aviation gunnery. He is a member of the board of trustees of Simpson college. He is active in community affairs, and has successfully carried out a cub scout program for the community. Mr. Buxton is president of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce. He belongs to Alpha Tau Omega and Rotary. His religious affiliation is with the Methodist church, and his political ties are with the Republican party. Mr. and Mrs. Buxton live at 717 West Ashland avenue, Indianola. Mr. Buxton received the Simpson college award for community service during 1952.
