BLANCHE BECK BURTON
Blanche Evelyn Beck Burton was born near Pleasantville in Marion County, Iowa, March 27, 1896, the daughter of William Sherman and Lettie Elizabeth (Ralph) Beck. She obtained her teacher's certificate and taught 10 years in Warren County. On Aug. 4, 1918, she married Vern Park Burton, son of William Henry and Ida May (Foor) Burton, who was born in Brown County, Ohio, April 10, 1897. Two children were born to them: Everett Charles, Feb. 18, 1920, and Ruth Evelyn, Jan. 16, 1932.
Mr. and Mrs. Burton are owners and operators of the Burton Nursing home, 401 West Salem, Indianola, and also operate a small farm in conjunction with it. Mrs. Burton is a member of the Rebekah lodge; Mr. Burton belongs to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. They are affiliated with the Baptist church.
Mrs. Elizabeth Talbott, the maternal great-grandmother of Mrs. Burton, was born Nov. 18, 1816, in County Down, Ireland. In 1831 she came to the United States with some friends, leaving all her near kindred behind. She settled in the state of New York where she lived three years, coming to Ohio in 1834, and to Iowa in the spring of 1855. She settled on a farm on section 24 in Belmont township. On Feb. 22, 1844, she was married to Ralph Talbott of Westmoreland County, Pa. He was born Jan. 15, 1810, and died Nov. 6, 1876, leaving a family of seven children: Catherine D., Susie, William H., Mary F., Ella E., Daniel P. and Allen D. Catherine D. died in infancy. Mr. Talbott's family was among the first settlers in the township, having built the third house in the township, the old logs of which were still on the place in 1879. This farm consisted of 120 acres. Susie
Talbott was Mrs. Burton's grandmother. She married Albert Cyril Ralph, and they had 10 children, including Mrs. Burton's mother, Lettie Elizabeth (Beck). Both of Mrs. Burton's grandfathers were in the Civil war. Albert C. Ralph was in Andersonville prison and Harmon Beck was in Sherman's march to the sea. Mrs. Burton had two brothers in World War I: Loren Elsworth and Harvey Harmon Beck; and one brother in World War II, Richard Ira Beck. Mr. and Mrs. Burton have three grandchildren, Alaine Nanette and Laverne Earl Burton, and Michael Ray Judd.
