CHARLES ROSS BISHOP
Charles Ross Bishop was born Oct. 25, 1875, in Greenfield Township, Warren County, Iowa. His father and mother are
Levi and Caroline (Ferrel) Bishop. At present he is a farmer at R.F.D. 4, Indianola. He received his education in Grove school in Greenfield township. On June 17, 1895, he married Della May Foust, daughter of Elias M. and Margaret (Hoover) Foust, who was born in Greenfield Township Feb. 12, 1879. Their children are: Eva June (Mrs. Ralph Young), born April 6, 1897; Violet Mabel (Mrs. Alvin Neagele), born May 19, 1899; Leola Carolyn (Mrs. James W. Brown), born Dec. 14, 1911.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Bishop are descendants of Warren County pioneers. Ross' grandfather, Joshua Bishop, came to Warren County in 1845, buying 160 acres from the government two miles west of Summerset, the farm later to be known as the Abe Ash farm. His father, Levi Bishop, bought from Francis Whited, in 1864, the 80 acre farm on which Ross was born and which he has owned since 1901. This piece of land has had three owners in almost 100 years. Levi Bishop was in the Civil war, Company H, 34th Iowa infantry.
Mrs. Bishop's father, Elias Foust, bought a 40-acre farm from the government in 1849, and at the time of his death in 1914 was the only man left in Warren County who had lived continuously on, and died on, land entered from the government. The Bishops are Republicans, and are members of the North River Methodist church in Greenfield township.
