The following men and women have been selected as typical of the outstanding recognition achieved by alumni of Simpson College in representative fields of endeavor:

MUSIC - Arthur D. Middleton (November 28, 1880 – February 16, 1929)
Arthur D. Middleton, former baritone of the Metropolitan Opera Company; recognized as the world’s greatest interpreter of oratorio music; appeared thirty-five times in first season with Metropolitan; sand leading roles in “Lohengrin,” “Fidelio,” “Carmen,” “Aida,” “Rheingold,” “Parsifal,” “Faust,” and other operas; appeared with the New York and Minneapolis Symphony Orchestras; made doctor of music by Simpson College, 1923; head of the voice department of Bush Conservatory, Chicago, at the time of death in 1929; class of 1903.
