Open Door Mission

Can anyone tell me what the Open Door Mission was?

I found an obit about John Shelley. When he died his service was given by Sidney Catherman from the Open Door Mission. I was wondering if by chance there are records somewhere pertaining to it and that hopefully they might have some information about him there? His mother was a Josephine Wheaton.
