Thanks so much for the info. The family may have been in transit during the 1850 census, so we may not be able to find them. A family source said they moved from IN to IA in 1850, so they may have missed the census takers in both states that year. I do know that Samuel Burgess was born Feb 1839 in Indiana so they must have been one of the families there in 1840. His father's name may have been Henry Burgess.
