I looked up the families mentioned in 1880. Note the discrepancy of place of birth of the fathers. Not all that unusual in my experience.

John Burgess was 43, so therefore born about 1837 in IN. Father VA, Mother MD. He was married 24 December 1863 in Wapello Co, IA.
Samuel Burgess was 40, so therefore b. about 1840 in IN. Father MD, Mother MD. He was married 18 May 1862.
Margaret (mother) living with John in 1880 is 73, b. MD with both parents from MD.
Since both John and Samuel were born in IN they could be in either IN or IA for 1850 and 1860. The family should be in IN in 1840. I could not find Margaret nor a Henry in Indiana in an 1860 index for Indiana censuses. I will look more tomorrow in the other sources. I thought the above information might help others who might be trying to answer your question.
