Your best bet will be to go to the Ottumwa Public Library. The library run by the Wapello County Genealogical Society is only open on Friday and Saturday from about noon until 3 pm.

The Ottumwa Public Library has a reasonable genealogy section. However, some of thier materials are spotty in that someone or multiple someones keep stealing materials.

The library has an index through much of the 1890s of death announcements and obituaries from Ottumwa newspapers. The index will indicate what date the announcement occured, page number and column number. The library has microfilmed Ottumwa newspaper from the 1800s to current.
