Miss Mary Murphy, 67, who has been in the coal business in Ottumwa for 25 years, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday at her home 202 East Court street, after a lingering illness. Born in Ayrshire, Scotland, March 1, 1877, she came to America when a child. She has operated the Murphy Coal Co. and the Githen Coal Co. here in the past years. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Maschek, Mrs. Ben Grotz and Miss Margaret Murphy, all of Ottumwa and Mrs. Helen Silvers, Cedar Rapids, and a brother Edward Murphy, Perry.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Murphy home and at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. celebrating a requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The body will remain at the Vaughan funeral home unitl 2 p.m. Friday when it will be removed to the residence. Members of St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary society will meet at the Murphy home at 8 p.m. Friday to recite the rosary.
