Death Summons Mrs. D.B. Johnston
Mrs. Fannie M. Johnston, 81, widow of D.B. Johnston, died at 12:20 p.m. today in the St. Joseph hospital. She suffered a fracture of the left hip and wrist in a fall in the basement of her home at 207 West Park avenue last Monday. Mrs. Johnston was born in Ottumwa, February 22, 1863, the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Chilton, who came to this city from England in 1857. Ottumwa had always been home. She and Mr. Johnston were married January 1, 1890. He died November 11, 1931. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the First Methodist church and Ottumwa chapter of the Order of Easter Star. She is survived by her son, Clarence S. Johnston managing editor of The Courier; her brother Charles Chilton of Ottumwa, two nieces, Mrs. C.F. Linden, Riverside, Illinois, and Mrs. Clell Kirk, Ottumwa. A niece, Mrs. Howard Baird of St. Louis died September 13, 1937. The body is at the Lester Jay funeral home. No arrangements have been made for services.
Funeral services for Mrs. D.B. Johnston, 207 West Park avenue, who died Saturday noon at the St. Joseph hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Lester Jay funeral home. The Rev. Theodore H. Leonard D.D. of the First Methodist church will be in charge. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery and pallbearers will be A.R. Carlson, Albert M. Efner, Frank G. Fiedler, Harold Halter, Leighton B. Smith and Jordan M. Work.
