William A. Dawson, 70, died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday at the home of his son, Verl H. Dawson, 410 South Schuyler street. He had been a resident of the Martinsburg vicinity almost his entire life. His wife preceded him in death March 1, 1944. He is survived by two sons, Earl and Verl of Ottumwa, a daughter, Mrs. Everett Ewing of Pontiac, Michigan, three sisters, Mrs. June Lowe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mrs. James W. Jones of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ezra Gullett of Hedrick, one brother Thornton Dawson of Ottumwa and seven grandchildren. The son of Levi and Nancy Dawson, he was born in Keokuk county October 9, 1873. He was a member of I.O.O.F. lodge Martinsburg and also of the M.W.A.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Martinsburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of the Willard Street Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Nelson Murdock of Hedrick. Burial will be in Pennington cemetery near Sigourney. The body will remain at the Johnson funeral chapel here until Tuesday morning.
