Former Ottumwan Plunges To Death
William V. Franklin, 28, formerly of Ottumwa was killed Saturday night in a fall from a third-floor hotel room window in Quincy, Illinois, accord to word received here by his mother, Frances Phillips. His mother and two brothers, Leslie Franklin of Agency and Jack Franklin of Chillicothe left Sunday for Sterling. Mr. Franklin is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Jay Harding of East Moline, Illinois. The body is being brought to Ottumwa from Sterling, Illinois and will be taken to the Johnson funeral chapel later tonight to await completion of arrangements for the funeral.
Funeral services for William V. Franklin formerly of Ottumwa who died following a fall from a hotel window at Sterling, Illinois last Saturday night, will be at the Johnson funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday conducted by the Rev. Thurman Bowen of the Finley Avenue Baptist church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. The casket will be taken to the family residence in Agency at 5 p.m. today and will be returned to the chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Phillips of Agency; two brothers, Leslie Franklin, Agency, and Jack Franklin, Agency and Jack Franklin, Chillicothe; a sister, Mrs. Jay Harding, East Moline, Illinois; three stepbrothers, Harry Phillips in the Navy, Cleo Phillips, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and James Phillips, Fairbanks, Alaska, and three stepsisters, Mrs. Stanley Bullet and Mrs. B.H. Moon, both of Agency, and Margaret Bishop, Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his father, William Burton Franklin and by a brother Wendell.
