Fremont- Mrs. Mattie Smith, 78, formerly of near Oskaloosa, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. Moore, Kirkwood, Illinois, after two years of failing health. She is survived by her husband, M.E. Smith, of Kirkwood; her daughter; a son C.E. Smith of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother and three sisters. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tovrea and was born November 18, 1865, in Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Fremont Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. J.W. Zerbe, and burial will be in the Cedar Township cemetery. The body will remain at the Community funeral parlors in Ottumwa until the time for the services.
