Miss Dobyns Dies; Was Veteran Teacher
Miss Mary Ellen Dobyns, 78, died Sunday at the St. Joseph hospital after an illness of several months. Miss Dobyns was born at Keokuk. Later, with her family she moved to Oskaloosa where she lived the greater part of her life. A teacher by profession, she held responsible instructional and administrative positions in the Malcolm, Oskaloosa and Des Moines high schools until obliged to discontinue her work because of failing eyesight. Since 1932 Miss Dobyns had made her home at Ottumwa Heights. She suffered a fractured hip in a fall several weeks ago and had since contracted pneumonia. The body was to be taken to Ottumwa Heights from the Vaughan funeral home this afternoon.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel there Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock, the Rev. John Collins of Oskaloosa celebrating requiem high mass.
