Veteran Nurse Dies
Mrs. Arthur W. Menge of Ottumwa route 2, above, died Thursday evening in the Ottumwa hospital. A graduate of the St. Joseph hospital nursing training school, Mrs. Menge had served as a nurse at both the Ottumwa and St. Joseph hospitals. Funeral services were held this morning from the Sacred Heart Catholic church.
Mrs. Marie Gasser Menge, 42, wife of Arthur W. Menge, Ottumwa route 2, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Ottumwa hospital. She was born October 13, 1901, on a farm south of Ottumwa. She entered nursing training school at the St. Joseph hospital in 1928 and was graduated with the class of 1931. For a number of years after 1934, she was on duty at Ottumwa hospital. Survivors are her husband, a son Byron, and a daughter, Patricia May, both at home, her mother, Mrs. John Gasser, and two brothers, Byron and Ernest Gasser all of Ottumwa route 2.
The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Vaughan funeral home to Sacred Heart church where requiem mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. by the Rev. J.H. Courtney. Burial in Calvary cemetery. The Altar and Rosary society will meet at Vaughan’s at 8 p.m. today to recite the rosary.
