Mrs. Glenn, Prominent Ottumwa Woman, Dies
Mrs. Katherine F. Glenn, wife of the late Henry Glenn, Ottumwa banker, died at 10:25 p.m. Monday at the St. Joseph hospital following a lingering illness. Her home is at 509 North Market street. A lifelong resident of Ottumwa Mrs. Glenn was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Doran. She was married in the old St. Mary’s church October 28, 1892, to Henry Glenn, an executive of the Framers & Merchant Savings bank, who preceded her in death April 27, 1933. Mrs. Glenn was an active church and civic worker. She held state and local office in the Catholic Daughters of America and was the first state treasurer of the Iowa America Legion auxiliary. She had serviced on the boards of the Red Cross and the Salvation Army and gave much of her time to the Ottumwa Community Chest and the St. Joseph hospital guild. She was a member of St. Mary’s church. Survivors include a son, Clarence P. Glenn, Ottumwa, three daughters, Kathryn C. Glenn, Ottumwa, Florence Glenn, Berkeley, California, and Mrs. Ruth McMillen, Eau Claire, Wisconsin: three sisters Mrs. Agnes McIntyre, Omaha, Mrs. Anna Dreyfus, Hollywood, California, Mrs. Clara Cole Houston, Texas, and four grandchildren. The body is at the Vaughan funeral home, but it is planned to remove it to the residence Wednesday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Glenn, who died Monday evening at the St. Joseph hospital will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the home and at 9 o’clock at the St. Mary’s Catholic church, where a solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. assisted by the Rev. Michael Broderick, deacon, and the Rev. William V. Snell, sub deacon. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers will be Linus Niemeyer, Chris Huston, John Brady, Frank Pollard, Earl Wimmer, C.L. Mikesh, Edward Grier and Rt. J.E. McDermott. The members of the Catholic Daughters of America will meet with the General Shields council of the Knights of Columbus No. 888 at 8’clock this evening at the Glenn home to recite the rosary. The body was removed to the home this morning from the Vaughan funeral home.
