Miss Edna Adcock, Rural Teacher Dies
Miss Edna E. Adcock, 54, Ottumwa route 4, who had taught school for 35 years, 22 of them in Wapello county rural schools died suddenly at 2 a.m. today at her home. The daughter of McDonald and Lovina Adcock, she was born September 13, 1889 on the farm where she died. Miss Adcock’s teaching had included seven years at Pola, Iowa, six years at Elberon, Iowa, and she had completed one year at Riverside, Iowa, when she closed her school May 12. She was a member of the First Methodist church and of the Rebekah’s. She is survived by a sister, Miss Clara Adcock and three brothers, Harry, William and Frank Adcock, all of Ottumwa route 4, with the exception of the latter who resides in Ottumwa. A niece, Shirley Adcock of Ottumwa and two nephews, Donald Adcock of Ottumwa and Staff Sergeant Howard E. Adcock stationed at Charleston South Carolina, also survive. Funeral services for Miss Edna E. Adcock, Ottumwa route 4, who died early Thursday at her home, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Herber A. Keck D.D. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Will Hazeltine, Joe Scully, David Thorne, Clay Chapman, Oliver Potter and Bart Sheehan.
