John O. Tennis, 51, of 126 North James street, died at 4:30 a.m. today in University hospital, Iowa City. He was born in Mahaska county, July 19, 1892, the son of Sam and Jane Tennis. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for nine years, and an employee of the John Morrell & Co. for the last six years. He was a member of F.O.E. No. 114, W.O.W. and the Methodist church. Survivors are his wife, Gladys; three brothers, H.O. Tennis, Cambridge, Minnesota, O.B. Tennis, Beacon, and Howard Tennis, Cedar; two sisters, Mrs. Ted Abernathy, Ottumwa rural route, and Mrs. Mary Morrow, Hondo, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. The body is at Johnson’s funeral chapel. Funeral services for John O. Tennis, 126 North James street, who died Tuesday in University hospital, Iowa City, will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Johnson’s chapel. The Rev. E.L. Frost of the Davis Street Christian church will be in charge and burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Howard, Archie Carnes, Charles Young, Charles Deford, Charles Millard and Paul Richards.
