Arthur Thompson, 60, a lifelong resident of Wapello county, who resided on Ottumwa route 2, died at 1:15 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lello Reid, in Batavia. He was the son of Daniel and Elizabeth Thompson and was born in this county July 23, 1883. He was married in January of 1909 to Esther Abraham, his wife preceding him in death December 4, 1917. Surviving are one son, Ralph S. Thompson, radioman first class in the U.S. Navy: two daughters, Mrs. Millie Reid of Batavia and Mrs. Clara Anderson of Ottumwa; a granddaughter, Patricia Louise Reid of Batavia and two brothers, Charlie Thompson of Portland, Oregon, and William Thompson of Billings, Montana. One sister, Amelia, and his parents also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. W.E. Goughnour, pastor of the Batavia Christian church. Burial will be in Brooks cemetery.
