Veteran Local Farmer Dies At 91
Frank Grabenschroer, 91, a Wapello county farmer for the past 70 years, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday at the St. Joseph hospital, where he had been confined for the past six months. He was born in Germany July 15, 1852 and came to America when 17 years old. He came to this county shortly thereafter and operated a farm on Ottumwa route 6. He married Elizabeth Merschmann at West Point, who preceded him in death in July of 1921. He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Margaret Grabenschroer, in 1923. Survivors include three daughters, Sister Mary Anastasia, Davenport; Mrs. Joe Krebsbach, Lawrence, Nebraska, and Mrs. William Hellige, Fort Madison; two sons Frank Grabenschroer, Lawrence, Nebraska, and John Grabenschroer, Ottumwa; two brothers Herman and Gerad Grabenschroer, both of Lawrence, Nebraska, two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Shutte, Lawrence, Nebraska and Mrs. Herman Schutte, Indianola, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart church, where the Rev. J.H. Courtney will celebrate a requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of the Holy Name society will meet at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Vaughan chapel to recite the rosary.
