Mrs. Mary Ostdiek, 82, a native of Eddyville and a resident of Ottumwa for 60 years, died at 3:10 a.m. today at the St. Joseph hospital. She had been in failing health for many years. She was born in Eddyville September 2, 1860, the daughter of John and Dora Tennyson. She was married to Harry Ostdiek in old St. Mary’s church here April 9, 1882, by the late Rev. John Kreckle. Surviving are her husband Henry, and the following children: John J. of Iowa City, Carl P. of Minneapolis, Cornelius E. of Los Angeles, Mrs. Dorothy Metzger of Long Beach, California, Lena of Des Moines, Mrs. Margaret Stemple of Plainfield, Illinois, Herman A. Ostdiek and Mrs. Nellie Jordon of Ottumwa. She is also survived by two brothers, W.H., Tennyson of Huntley, Montana, and T.A. Tennyson of Iowa City, and one sister, Mrs. L.A. Lames of New Sharon. One daughter, preceded Mrs. Ostdiek in death. There are 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren surviving. Mrs. Ostdiek was a member of the Altar and Rosary society of St. Mary’s church the body was taken to the Moroney funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Ostdiek, 83, who died Monday after a long illness, will be held Wednesday at 8:30 at the Moroney funeral home, and at 9 o’clock in the St. Mary’s church, requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. the pastor. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The Altar and Rosary society will meet at 8 o’clock tonight at Moroney’s to recite the rosary.
