George Chilton, 76, died at 5:20 a.m. today at the Wapello county hospital where he had been a patient for a number of months. He was the son of Jacob and Sarah Chilton, pioneers of Ottumwa, and was born here January 23, 1867. For many years he was engaged in brick mason work here and in the surrounding area. He married Miss Edna Salter, who survives, together with his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy A. Kirk, and granddaughter, Suzanne K. Kirk of Ottumwa. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Charles Chilton and Mrs. D.B. Johnston both of Ottumwa. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel.
Services for George Chilton, who died Wednesday will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Johnson’s funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of the Willard Street Methodist church. Burial in Ottumwa cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lester Fullmer, Lloyd Kephart, Carl Wells, W.A. Rischer, Harry Logan and F.R. Maxwell.
