Sherman H. Swaim, 57, former resident of near Blakesburg and Ottumwa, died at his home in Des Moines at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The son of Eli and Lucretia Swaim, he was born near Unionville, Iowa, August 30, 1886, and had been a resident of Des Moines for the past 13 years. Surviving are his mother Mrs. Lucretia Swaim of near Unionville, Iowa; his wife, Gertrude; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Fowler, Davenport; Mrs. Carl Grooms, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Iven Elston, Laramie, Wyoming. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Wallace Proctor, Miss Evah Swaim and Mrs. Ernest Schroeder, all of Ottumwa. Mrs. Earl Miller, Blakesburg, and Mrs. Ladd Miller, Unionville, Iowa and three grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, a daughter, Irene Wright, who died June 5, 1943, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Leffler, who died in 1914. The body will be brought to Ottumwa this evening and taken to the Johnson funeral chapel where services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in charge of the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery.
