Ben F. Black, 74, of 238 North Moore street, died at the Ottumwa hospital Saturday at 6:25 p.m. He was the son of Ira D. and Lucy E. Black and was born March 26, 1869, at Napoleon, Ohio. He had been a resident of Wapello county nearly all of his life and of Ottumwa for the past 20 years. He was a member of the Davis Street Christian church. Mr. Black was married to Lillie May Walker on March 28, 1897. She preceded him in death March 5, 1942. He is survived by three sons, Lester D. Black, Archie L. Black and Wilbur W. Black, all of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Aletha Sayler of Des Moines and Mrs. Margorie Miller of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; one brother, A.J. Black of Blacksburg, route 1, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Garrison of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by one son, in infancy. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel Tuesday at 1 p.m. in charge of the Rev. E. L. Frost of the Davis Street church with burial in Hopewell cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
