Funeral services for Elmer Poncy will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Johnson’s chapel conducted by the Rev. E.M. Boyer assisted by the Rev. Lester Shields. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Virgil Grear, Ed Paris, Joe Brewer, Alvin Murphy, Eddie Jones and Walter Holman. Poncy an employee of John Morrell & Co. lived with his mother Mrs. Ida Poncy. His father, Mark Poncy died in 1938. The young man was single and had been rejected for service in the armed forces because of a heart condition. Obit cut off at this point to resume… Moon said there was little indication that any of the men involved in the fray were actually intoxicated. Poncy was born in Ottumwa April 4, 1914 and lived her all his life. Besides his mother he is survived by four brothers, Oscar in the Navy, and Harold, Paul and Clarence, all of Ottumwa, and five sisters, Darlene and Arlene Poncy, both at home Mrs. Lola Ruby and Mrs. Edna Knight, both of Ottumwa and Mrs. Margaret Stevens of Tacoma, Washington. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral home for completion of arrangements.
