J.L. DeVol Dies; Veteran Hog Buyer
J.L. DeVol, hog buyer for John Morrell & Co. for more than 15 years, died suddenly at 5 p.m. Sunday at this home, 525 North Wapello street. He was 62 years old and was born March 2, 1881, the son of George and May DeVol, and had lived in Wapello county practically his entire life. He attended Penn college in Oskaloosa, and was a member of Ottumwa lodge No. 16 A.F.&A.M. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christian DeVol; one daughter, Lt. M. Rees of the Army nurse corps, and his father, George DeVol of Ottumwa. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Ora DeVol, and one brother, Frank DeVol, both of Ottumwa. The body will remain at the Lester Jay funeral home until the arrival of his daughter when funeral arrangements will be completed.
Funeral services for J.L. DeVol, above, who died at his home 525 North Wapello street, Sunday afternoon, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal church in charge of the Rev. Louis H. Matheus. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery with Masonic services at the grave. The body will be taken to church from the Lester Jay funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday and the casket will be closed before the service. Mr. DeVol 62 had lived in Wapello county nearly his entire life and had been a hog buyer for John Morrell & Co. for more than 25 years.
