Plane Crash Fatal To Air Cadet
Byron A. Hedin, 19, of LaGrange, Illinois, an aviation cadet at the United States Naval Air station here, died in a plane crash near midnight Thursday night. Cadet Hedin was engaged in routine flight maneuvers at the time of the accident which took place about on mile north of the north landing mat at the station. The plane caught fire after the crash. The student was on the verge of completing his course at the station here after war training school experience at Ball State college, Muncie, Indiana and the preflight school at Iowa City. He reported to the Ottumwa station last August. Cadet Hedin is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Hedin of LaGrange. The body is at the Reece funeral home. The cause of the accident is unknown, according to Lt. Hollis F. Peck station public relations officer, who said that Navy officials are making an investigation.
